A thousand National City families were treated to free turkeys Thursday ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
The giveaway, hosted by Sycuan’s Tribal Council, was part of an annual event designed to make the family-oriented day go a little smoother for those in need.
For the third year in a row, Sycuan partnered with the San Diego Padres and the National School District to put on the event. Free turkeys were handed out to pre-selected families who lined up. It was a drive-through style giveaway.
“It’s our pleasure to help members of the community whenever we can and we know these small gestures mean a lot this time of year when families are stretching their dollars as far as they can. We were always extremely appreciative when people helped us and we haven’t forgotten that, so it’s an honor for us to help now,” said Sycuan Chairman, Cody Martinez.
Not only did recipients get a free turkey, they also received a Padres beanie as an additional gift.
The gesture goes a along way to help families who might need a little extra help this holiday season.
