The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation donated $100,000 to four charities during its 33rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament hosted at Singing Hills Golf Club at Sycuan on Wednesday, June 5th.
Attendees, representatives from the Tribe, event sponsors and beneficiaries came together, not only to have a tee-rific day golfing, but to raise funds for local community’s mission during the 33rd Sycuan Cup Golf Tournament. From enjoying the lush greens of the golf course to swinging clubs and relaxing by the pool, attendees enjoyed knowing their swings made a positive hole-in-one impact on local communities.
Sycuan donated $100,000 to four charities during its Sycuan Cup 33rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament hosted at Singing Hills Golf Club by Sycuan Casino Resort on Wednesday, June 5. The donation was presented during the after party award ceremony to help benefit and support the cause of local charities.
“Giving back is a cornerstone value for the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation,” said Cody J. Martinez, Chairman, Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. “These charities play a vital role in our community, and we’re proud to support their important missions.”
During the after party award ceremony, the Sycuan Tribal Council presented $25,000 each to the American Indian College Fund, Groundwork San Diego, Inner-Tribal Treatment and San Diego Suicide Prevention Council for a total donation of $100,000.
The American Indian College Fund is one of the nation’s largest charity supporting American Indian and Alaska Native students access to higher education since 1989. The College Fund also supports 35 accredited tribal colleges and universities on or near Indian reservations because “Education is the answer” to transform the lives and communities of Native Americans. To date, the nonprofit has provided more than $319 million through multiple initiatives. Through scholarship program, tools for educational success, community support and more, the College Fund ensures native students have the resources they need to graduate and succeed in their chosen career. As a result, the nonprofit is highly rated by charity evaluators and listed among the top 100 charities by the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance.
Upon the request of the City of San Diego, the Groundwork San Diego-Chollas Creek was founded in 2007 to deliver education, green infrastructure and climate safe neighborhoods in low-income areas. Groundwork generated over $10 million in government and philanthropic funding to recover the preurbanization charm of the natural resources in San Diego. One of their ongoing projects include restoring the waterway system of creeks and canyons, traversing neighborhoods within City Heights, Oak park, Encanto, Chollas View, Mt. Hope, Barrio Logan and Southcrest from its headwaters in La Mesa and Lemon Grove to San Diego Bay. Thousands of volunteers and stakeholders help create and maintain healthy climate safe neighborhoods to bring untold recreational, educational and economic benefits to the area and beyond.
The Inner-Tribal Treatment is a beacon of hope for clients with substance use disorders in tribal communities by providing culturally sensitive resources. Providers use a holistic approach to care that is non-judgmental and person centered. Through their blending or weaving of traditional, cultural and evidence-based practices, Inner-Tribal Treatment focus on balancing emotional, mental, physical and spiritual health. With guidance of a counselor, they aim to set
goals and objectives to improve wellness and rehabilitation of clients.
The San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council (SPC) plays a vital role in preventing suicide and its devastating consequence across San Diego County. Focused on having zero suicides in the city, the nonprofit organization believes in “working together to end suicide.” With continued support from the County of San Diego and the Community Health Improvement Partners (CHIP), the SPC provides oversight, guidance and collective support to implement the recommendations of the Suicide Prevention Action Plan to save lives.
