Sycuan Brings Professional Soccer to San Diego

San Diego is home to Major League Soccer’s newest franchise thanks to a partnership between Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Mansour and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation.

Singing Hills Golf Resort at Sycuan today announced that it has completed its hotel room remodel including all guestrooms, suites and hospitality suites. After being open for more than 66 years, the latest refresh brings the property back to its roots to revive the style and nostalgia of its mid-century glory days.

On Wednesday, Sycuan Casino Resort proudly presented $5,000 to Second Chance in support of their Community Garden. The Second Chance Garden allows participants to gain hands-on experience with urban agriculture. This program combines classroom and experiential learning, with classes on cooking/nutrition, food justice, financial literacy, job readiness, and youth development workshops.

Each December, members of the Sycuan Tribal Council and leadership team individually select a charity to support on behalf of Sycuan. This year’s celebration marks Sycuan’s 16th Holiday Gift Giving Ceremony. Over the years, the event has supported hundreds of diverse nonprofit organizations ranging from social and health services to the arts and the environment.

The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation in partnership with the San Diego Padres and the National School District donated 1,000 free turkeys to families living in National City. The donation comes in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday as a way to give back to the community.

On Friday, Snapdragon Stadium held a private ribbon-cutting ceremony for city officials, community partners and media. Snapdragon Stadium officially opens to the public on Saturday, September 3 when the San Diego State Aztecs host the University of Arizona Wildcats.

Today, the San Diego Symphony announces that the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation and Sycuan Casino Resort has made a $1.1 million donation – the single largest cash gift ever given to the Arts and Culture sector by a sovereign tribal nation in Southern California.

For more than a quarter-century, Sycuan has set a new standard for community support with its sponsorship of the hometown San Diego Padres. Sycuan’s initial partnership investment in the ballclub in 1995 was also revolutionary as it was the first Tribal Government sponsorship in Major League Baseball. In many respects the deal paved the way for Native American Tribes and their business enterprises to establish significant presence and sponsorship status throughout professional sports.

The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation and Sycuan Casino Resort are the inaugural Founding Partners at San Diego State’s new Snapdragon Stadium, set to open in September 2022. The Sycuan Piers and Sycuan Founders Club premium spaces will feature the Sycuan name while providing unforgettable experiences for the thousands of fans who will visit the stadium annually.
